Registration Open for Board Governance March Course

Sharpen your leadership skills and improve our community

Central Illinois residents interested in making a difference in their communities through board leadership are invited to enroll in our Introduction to Board Governance March course.

“If you live in Central Illinois and want to help make our community a better place – plus develop your professional leadership skills – this course will help you achieve those goals,” says Natalie Beck, Heart of Illinois Community Foundation CEO, which helps facilitate the course sessions.

Led by Bruce Nims, a Decatur businessman and active community leader with extensive experience in board development, business ownership and training, the course helps participants develop skills in:

  • community leadership, including being an effective and prepared member board member;
  • setting and guiding the direction of local organizations; and
  • evaluating how well those organizations serve our community.

Participants also develop skills in teamwork, leadership, consensus-building, financial literacy, legal matters and more professional tools. In addition, individuals who successfully complete the course will be connected with local organizations that may be in need of volunteer board members.

Cost per person for the entire course is $30. Class size limited to 12 participants. All sessions will be held at the Decatur Area Arts Council, second floor classroom, located at 125 N. Water St. Decatur, IL.

The March course includes a total of three class sessions:

  • Thursday, March 13 – 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, March 15 – 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  • Monday, March 17 – 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
