Gary Likins, Evelyn Carroll’s cousin and trustee of the Carroll estate, said the couple was married in 1973. “And even though they had no children of their own, they were always interested in children and education,” he said. “They both lived and worked in Macon and felt deeply about their love for community, and they knew they wanted to give back.”
Since the scholarship was announced in 2013, providing full tuition for graduating Meridian High School seniors to attend Richland Community College for two years, 263 students have received the Carroll Scholarship.
