Decatur, IL –Missy Batman, Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy® and Chief Operating Officer at the Heart of Illinois Community Foundation (HICF), has been appointed to the Community Foundations National Standards Board (CFNSB). She will serve a three-year term beginning in February, joining other distinguished leaders from across the country.
Batman brings extensive experience in nonprofit finance, governance, operational excellence, and philanthropic stewardship to the CFNSB, which guides the nationally recognized National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations® accreditation program.
The CFNSB is a collegial group of 15 professionals from across the United States dedicated to advancing the community foundation field by governing a robust national accreditation program and supporting public policies that strengthen philanthropy nationwide. The Council on Foundations actively engages the CFNSB in this national work.
Community Foundations National Standards® is an accreditation program created by community foundations for community foundations. The standards are peer-driven, voluntary, and self-regulatory, representing operational effectiveness and a commitment to excellence in community philanthropy.
National Standards accreditation promotes excellence in two critical ways: by establishing standards for operationally and legally sound community foundations, and by guiding foundation staff and boards through a rigorous process of achieving operational excellence. With confidence in their operations, community foundations are empowered to innovate and take the calculated risks necessary to address complex community challenges. The CFNSB’s mission is to ensure the integrity of the accreditation process while strengthening its value for the community foundation field and the communities they serve.
“Missy’s appointment to the Community Foundations National Standards Board is a reflection of her exceptional leadership, expertise, and unwavering commitment to the highest standards in philanthropy,” said Natalie Beck, HICF CEO. “We are incredibly proud to see her represent our Foundation and our state on a national stage. This appointment underscores that community foundations like ours—rooted in local impact—also play an important role in shaping excellence and trust across the philanthropic sector nationwide.”
Batman expressed enthusiasm for the appointment, stating, “I am deeply honored to join the Community Foundations National Standards Board and contribute to advancing high standards for community foundations nationwide. After more than 20 years in a field I love, it’s a privilege to serve with, and to learn from, colleagues across the country. In a time of significant community needs, ensuring integrity, transparency, and best practices is more important than ever, and I look forward to collaborating with my peers to support excellence in community philanthropy.”
