Project statement of need: Finding activities that include girls and women with special needs can be a challenge for many. Too often, they miss out on recreational and therapeutic programs that could help them grow, connect, and feel empowered. Their families and caregivers often miss the joy of seeing their loved ones participate in something meaningful also. One of the biggest challenges we face is helping those who are either too fearful or physically unable to ride. Traditional horseback riding requires a certain level of strength and mobility, this means some girls and women miss out entirely.

The impact of Riding Warriors extends far beyond the individual participants. Families raising children with disabilities—especially mothers, grandmothers & aunts—often carry heavy responsibilities with limited support. Our program not only provides benefits for the girls but also offers caregivers a much-needed moment of respite. We believe in strengthening the entire family unit by encouraging parents to be part of the journey, whether through observing sessions, helping set goals, or learning strategies to support their child’s progress at home. These opportunities empower caregivers while deepening the bond through fun, shared experiences.

Riding Warriors at Sams Ranch is launching Riding Strong, a specialized equine-assisted therapy program to support girls with disabilities, and the women who care for them. Many of these individuals face barriers to participation in traditional riding programs, Riding Strong will provide a safe, adaptive, and empowering entry point through the use of the Equicizer Classic, a non-motorized mechanical horse that simulates the therapeutic motion of horseback riding. This program, paired with a 40-foot round pen, offers structured, low-stimulation sessions that help build confidence, balance, coordination, and core strength. Through partnerships with schools, disability service providers, and community organizations, we are expanding access to equine therapy for underserved girls and their families. By addressing physical, emotional, and social barriers, Riding Strong creates a transformative experience that fosters growth, independence, and connection—all through the healing power of horses.

By adding these tools, we’re breaking down barriers and opening new doors—not just for girls with disabilities but also for women- mothers, grandmothers, neighbors, and friends who spend their lives caring for loved ones with diverse needs. With Equicizer and a safe training space, we can reach more people in our community and bring the healing power of horses to those who need it most. This project aligns directly with the She Gave Women’s Giving Circle’s mission to invest in opportunities for girls and empower them to reach their full potential. With this support, we can provide a safe and transformative space where girls gain strength, independence, and confidence—both in and out of the saddle.

By investing in these girls and the women they lookup to, we are investing in the future. Helping them overcome obstacles and develop their full potential sets them on a path toward independence, self-sufficiency, and confidence. When we lift up individuals, we strengthen the entire community—creating a ripple effect of resilience, hope, and possibility.

Describe how this project aligns with your organization's mission and goals? The Riding Strong project aligns with the core mission of Riding Warriors, and our goals for this project- enhancing our ability to support families and to provide accessible equine-assisted therapies. We believe that everyone deserves the chance to experience the power of horses, regardless of ability or background. Through outreach events and demonstrations, we aim to foster growth, break down barriers, and create a place where all individuals are seen, valued, and included. We provide respite, resources, and empowerment for those raising children with disabilities and educating and inspiring the community to foster empathy, and understanding. Through each individual we empower, we hope to extend a ripple of positive change that enriches the lives of those around them.

Explanation of intent - new program: Riding Warriors at Sams Ranch was founded on the belief that horses have the power to heal—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Through our work with children we’ve witnessed how equine therapy transforms lives. However, we also recognized a significant gap: there are limited programs designed specifically for girls and women with disabilities or those facing unsafe environments. Many of these individuals lack access to the therapeutic benefits due to financial barriers, or concerns about safety and accessibility.

Riding Strong was created to fill this gap. With the help of adaptive items like the Equicizer, we can ensure that girls and women of all abilities—regardless of physical, cognitive, or emotional challenges—have the chance to thrive. Our organization is uniquely positioned to launch and sustain this program successfully. Riding Warriors is built on a strong foundation of experienced instructors, dedicated volunteers, and a faith-driven commitment to serving others.

Sustainability beyond grant period: Riding Warriors at Sams Ranch is committed to the long-term sustainability of this program. We are developing a diversified funding strategy that includes individual donations, corporate sponsorships, and ongoing grant applications. We are also exploring earned income opportunities through therapeutic riding lessons and other equine-related activities. The Equicizer Classic and round pen represent a one-time investment that will serve countless girls for years to come, ensuring the lasting impact of the She Gave Women's Giving Circle's contribution.

If you receive partial funding, how would the program be impacted? We would gratefully accept partial funding, allocating available funds towards the purchase of the Equicizer and related equipment. To cover the balance, we would leverage strategies including developing unique funding initiatives, sponsorship outreach and pursue grant opportunities to secure the remaining funds. Our commitment to this program is unwavering, we are hopeful that these efforts, we will secure the necessary resources to bring Riding Strong to fruition, even with partial funding.
