Board Governance Course Returns in November
Sharpen Your Leadership Skills and Improve Our Community
- Central Illinois residents interested in making a difference in their communities through board leadership are invited to enroll in November’s Introduction to Board Governance course.
“If you live in Central Illinois and want to help make our community a better place – plus develop your professional leadership skills – this course will help you achieve those goals,” says Natalie Beck, executive director of The Community Foundation of Macon County, which helps facilitate the course sessions.
Led by Bruce Nims, a Decatur businessman and active community leader with extensive experience in board development, business ownership and training, the course helps participants develop skills in:
- community leadership, including being an effective and prepared board member;
- setting and guiding the direction of local organizations; and
- evaluating how well those organizations serve our community.
Participants also develop skills in teamwork, leadership, consensus-building, financial literacy, legal matters and more – all valuable professional tools. In addition, individuals who successfully complete the course will be connected with local organizations that may be in need of volunteer board members.
The November course includes a total of three class sessions:
- Saturday, Nov. 14 - 9:30 a.m. to noon
- Monday, Nov. 16 - 6:30 - 9 p.m.
- Thursday, Nov. 19 - 6:30-9 p.m.
Cost per person for the entire course is $30. All sessions will be held at the Decatur Area Arts Council, second floor classroom, located at 125 N. Water St., Decatur, Ill.
Masks are required for attendance and social distancing is observed. Class size is limited to 12 participants.
