HICF announces EXTENDED APPLICATION DEADLINE for graduating high school seniors applying for college scholarships

Extended deadline: June 1, 2024 due to FAFSA processing delays

The HICF has announced important updates related to our 2024 scholarship application deadline for graduating high school seniors.

Due to ongoing challenges at the federal level with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and additional delays to processing FAFSA this cycle, our scholarship application deadline has been extended to June 1, 2024. This change is for this year only, is not a permanent change and does not affect the adult scholarship application deadline.

We continue to monitor the FAFSA delays and understand that scholarship applications can't be submitted without the FAFSA submission summary.

Though this has been stressful and frustrating for applicants, HICF scholarship coordinator Kathy Carter is here to support students and families through this process.

The Heart of Illinois Community Foundation will only present scholarships in May at the high school award ceremonies where scholarship recipients are selected by teachers and staff and not through our application process. These particular scholarships are awarded at Eisenhower, MacArthur, and St. Teresa High Schools each year.

Students awarded scholarships through the HICF application process will be notified by mail toward the end of June 2024. Students who do not receive a scholarship will be notified by email.
