We Are One Fund Donates $15,080 to Local Nonprofits
The We Are One Community Fund is donating a total of $15,080 in grant awards to help support 21 nonprofit organizations. We Are One is a donor-advised fund administered through The Community Foundation of Macon County. The awards were announced at the Sept. 6 Labor Day Picnic in Decatur’s Fairview Park.
The Decatur Trades & Labor Assembly and Decatur Building & Construction Trades Council joined forces in 2011 to create the We Are One Community fund, which promotes collective giving and philanthropy among working families. The fund’s advisory board commits that 100 percent of all individual donations directly support local services. Local unions cover the 1 percent administration fee, and all interest accrual is reinvested in the fund.
“The We Are One Community Fund was established in a tradition of giving back where our union members live and work,” says We Are One Community Chair Amy Rueff. “The fund was created to help working families make a bigger difference through collective giving.”
